WANA (May 05) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has announced the country’s readiness to enter into political negotiations with the European Union (EU) over mutual security concerns.

High-Level Call Between Iran and the EU

During a phone conversation on Monday, May 5, with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Araghchi, who was visiting Pakistan, discussed regional and global developments and updated her on the latest progress in Iran-U.S. indirect negotiations.

Iran Stresses Diplomacy Over Nuclear Concerns

Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to a diplomatic resolution of what he called “artificial concerns” regarding its peaceful nuclear program. He emphasized that a potential agreement is within reach if the other side approaches talks with realism and seriousness.

“If the only concern is Iran’s potential access to a nuclear weapon, then this issue can be resolved. Reaching an agreement is entirely feasible,” he said.

Continued Engagement with Europe

The foreign minister highlighted Iran’s previous rounds of dialogue with the E3—France, Germany, and the UK—over the past year. He reiterated Tehran’s readiness to engage with Europe, either within the EU framework or through bilateral talks with the E3, and called for constructive, depoliticized discussions.

Clarification on Russia Ties and Ukraine

Araghchi also addressed Iran’s cooperation with Russia, emphasizing that such collaboration is not directed against any third country, including those involved in the Ukraine conflict.

EU Welcomes Political Dialogue with Iran

Kaja Kallas welcomed the idea of initiating political discussions and proposed deputy-level talks to explore the framework for future negotiations. This proposal was accepted by the Iranian side.

During the call, Kallas expressed condolences on behalf of the EU over the recent explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port and conveyed sympathy to the families of the victims.
